* This freaking eBay fiasco just won't end. GRRRR! I'm still breathing deeply through it but I feel that RAGE could be moments away and I don't want to react like that to smaller life irritants anymore, regardless of loss of hard-earned money/time. I have to go back down to the Post Office today and continue wrangling with them, although it's being claimed that my $30 shipping fee did not include insurance. *cries* It's all making my stomach hurt.

* I spent a bulk of the weekend finishing moving the craft room into the spare bedroom and preparing the emptied space for A Room Of My Own. I'm using temporary fixings to furnish it, but I have ideas of what I want in there permanently and it includes more bookcases.

* And I NEED more bookcases. Here's a sampling of some of the shelves in my loft. These are quick snaps on my phone for IG -

Has anyone else had LJ convert to html only???? What the hell is up with that?

* We've begun discussing Season One, Episode 2 of Penny Dreadful at verbis_diablo. I have so many thoughts but not enough time/energy to write them up. I've got to get my head back in the game.

Everyone needs more bookcases. :)

I love seeing how other people organize things. Bookcases are right up there with computer desktops as a window into how people's minds work. For instance, my books* are very strictly organized by cover type (hard vs soft), then alphabetically by author with no consideration as to genre. That would drive some people crazy. But that's how I can find things. Same with my computer desktop. I can't explain the organization, but it all makes sense to me.

*The exception is the Recent Additions shelf which is arranged by length.

It's true! The Viking won't allow me to have any more built-ins installed. Says he feels like we're already living in a library. :)

I have to go by genre, name. I have too many books and I am a completist, so I usually have all titles and tangentials. You should see my cds!!

Now I demand pictures of your shelves.

And that's a bad thing because...?

Hee! He's a serious minimalist. He also has only read ONE novel in his entire life.

You mean, "living in my fantasy"? ;)

I wish the lighting in my dining room (which is also my "library") was more conducive to "shelfie" photos -- there are wooden shutters which are pretty much permanently closed, because I have furniture up against them.

I have books organized by genre and then roughly by author (I'll group same-author books together, but they aren't alphabetical), and then each shelf compartment is organized by book height.

Less confusing than it sounds, I swear! (And "genre" is by my own definition -- as a few examples, I have "dark fantasy" and "urban fantasy" groups, a "police procedurals" group, "hard SF" and "fantastic SF" groups, along with a "trashy-but-fun" group, LOL! As well as space for the uncategorizable-but-amazing.)

These pics are from my old apartment, which had better lighting in the bookcase area -- linking to the big versions which allow the titles to be read, at least somewhat:

Also, I would be furious and bereft about the eBay/prints/USPS situation, and I'm so sorry you're having to deal with it :(

*hugs*

GREAT bookcases, A! It's intriguing to me how so many of us have the same taste in reading material!

I love perusing other folks' bookshelves, too! I'm figuring I can do two of these a day for the next few weeks...have fun with it!

eBay!!! It's making me ill. Damn.

Yes, rewatching is vital, especially in light of the truncated finale. So many things I had forgotten - such as the Dorian/Brona encounter and the Brona/Proteus/Frankenstein encounter!

Internet issues are so aggravating. What did we use to get aggravated by in the Olde Days?

Postal and eBay frustrations are a special level of hell unto themselves. I do think that cooler heads prevail in those circumstances, but boy, I get it. Good luck. Sometimes you have to swallow the loss and move on and forgive yourself quickly.

I LOVE your IG snaps. My bookshelves are so haphazardly organized! You've inspired me to take more small house snaps. They truly are among my favorite.

My LJ is the same so far...

I am moving into a place where I will be able to let it go. But I think I will unload a bit on the Post Office because the parcel was PERFECT until he folded it and shoved it into the box....I have to go tomorrow. Couldn't get away from office work today.

It's a good project to keep me on IG! I just found out that you can see a "conversation" on IG after you @ someone! Hee!

So sorry the eBay/postal situation still isn't resolved. I'm not suggesting going apeshit on anyone, but you should probably let out your anger a little bit so it doesn't fester inside.

Nice looking shelves!

You know what, S? You're RIGHT. This IS bullshit. The package was fine right up until the moment he folded it and shoved it into my box. I DO need to get angry!

Thank you!

I am so excited for you to have your 'Room of One's Own! And a designated crafts room...sigh!

Were the cards utterly destroyed? Could they be salvaged? Perhaps by a book binder? I think the person who forged your signature should have to pay for everything, but that's just me.

I'm getting excited, too, M! I want it to really be a retreat! I also hope to get back into crafting. It's been too long...I've been writing rather than sewing/knitting.

I haven't opened the parcel yet as advised by the Post Office. I will know more once I do. But yes, it's destroyed. :(

I took a lot of "death" classes in college, so the first shot is a shelf of Death&Dying.

Second - Neil Gaiman. Have you read the Sandman series, M??? It's so very much one of my favourite things.

Third - Terry Pratchet. I need MOAR!

Fourth - Nick Cave lyrics, bios, novel. Musician shelf.

Fifth - Cormac McCarthy and Southern Goth.

Sixth - John Fowles and Lindsey Clarke!

Many many years ago I read Gaiman. Can't tell you what though.

Love love McCarthy! I saw The Road! Did you hear me cheering?

I have been trying to keep my journal alive--even made an entry today. 😁

i love pictures of other people's bookshelves, and not just because i recognize the sandman spines at twenty paces. :D i'm curious what other people read, or at least what books they have, and what other stuff they put on their bookshelves.

oh hey, gloomcookie! i was never a goth and always thought i might appreciate gc more if i was, but i liked it anyway. and is that pretty deadly a couple books to the left? i can't read the title but the colors on the spine look familiar.

didn't you say the mail delivery person forged your signature? that should be ammunition you can use, altho it sounds like no one wants to admit fault or take responsibility for destroying your cards. the whole thing sounds kinda rage-inducing.

I would LOVE to see your commix collections!! Do you have the Omnibus binding? I was buying Sandman issues in the 80's and have about half of that original collection as I had to split it. Those aren't on the shelf...I want the Omnibus but the $$$!

I LOVED Gloomcookie! And Death Jr. I haven't actually bought a graphic novel in a long, long time. :(

Yeah, I'm going to deal with the PO as soon as I get the go-ahead from ebay.

i don't have the sandman omnibus because, well, money. and i already have the whole thing in trades and single issues, and it's a weird kind of wasteful for me to basically buy it twice. (i think the only things i have two copies of are lloyd alexander's the book of three, because someone published a lovely 50th anniversary edition, and lotr, because i needed the omnibus with the alan lee cover because i'm weak.) the omnibus is gorgeous, tho. such a nice binding.

death jr was so cute! did you ever read any courtney crumrin? speaking of ted naifeh. :D

good luck with the post office! from what you've said, sounds like it really is their fault.

Eeeee, must take comic/trade paperback shelf photos for you!

I love everything Ted Naifeh involves himself with -- his art is mindbendingly lush and gorgeous. High cheekbones and androgyny and impeccable linework -- yum! (If you haven't read "How Loathsome," I highly recommend it -- wish it had been a longer series, but it's beautifully-done!)

Also, he is ADORABLE in person -- my friend Marilyn and I kidnapped him from the Small Press Expo (many years ago now), took him to our local Goth club, and then got kicked out of a diner for being excessively giggly at 2am. He's such a sweetheart :)

/shallow burbling (but, seriously, he's very down-to-earth and funny and charming, and I'd steal him again if I had the chance!)

I was supposed to have a room of my own when SO moved his office downstairs :taps foot impatiently because he has YET to move his stuff out of the old office: The more I think about it, though, the more I wonder if I should use my old bedroom instead. It's cleaner, for one. The downside is that it's also our guest bedroom and what if, say, somebody stays over?

Um, well, we'd have to get a new bed first for that room, LOL.

Watched S1E1 of Penny Dreadful last night and thought of you :) I wasn't sure I was going to like it but I did.

I struggled with a dedicated guest room for years and finally just committed...so yeah, that room is off-limits. But I have wanted my "own" room for a while and this feels good!
