The Real LJ Idol - VOTE!! THANK YOU!!

Last day to vote. It's going to be a close one! Two polls, twelve entries total. You can click on each, read, comment and then vote!

* The eclipse!!! We had welding lenses and that worked! We are NOT in the full eclipse view but we sure enjoyed what we could see, 80%? Shadows got long, dogs got quiet, and the sky looked like a seriously concerning evening storm! The sun was crescented but there was no way to snap a good picture. BUT I got some great pix of us watching the eclipse and of course cannot share them. Anyway, that was tingly.

* Finished Shetland last night and now I'm sad. Where will I feed my hunger for a burr? I thought it was great fun. D is less enthusiastic. But I recommend it!

* THIS looks AMAZING - Nick Cave graphic novel:  Mercy on Me! Pre-ordered!

* I'm dipping into Wallace Stegner. Such an insanely insightful and deep-feeling novelist. When we bemoan the BIG NOVEL in America ala the British novel...we should take a closer look at Stegner. But he ain't easy.

* The Viking is getting worried. He wants us to put in emergency foods and stuffs. Very prepper-like and I guess I'm beginning to get on board with that, although everything in my personality rails against it. For all my gothy ways, I really am an optimist. I may make a blog post about this.

Voted yesterday! Best of luck!! <3

We got 81% -- couldn't get protective lenses, but I made a pinhole camera.

*hugs!*

*smooch* Thanks, A!

You made a pinhole!!! I would LOVE to see some pix of you using that. Kidling1 made one, too, and so many folks had no idea what it was! :)

*laughs* It's just a cut-up cereal box with paper and foil -- not sure I can get a picture of it in use, bc it's just me here.

Kira, unfortunately, is missing the eclipse -- she's on a plane coming home from a visit to her boyfriend (who lives in Poland, although they tend to meet up elsewhere -- Bournemouth, this time!)

Poland??!?! I have not heard about this! That sounds pretty intriguing. Good for Kira!

She is fairly reserved about discussing her personal life, so I don't tend to post about it much.

They're very sweet together -- they've been dating for years (they met playing MMO games when she was in high school), they met in person for the first time 3 years ago (although they text and Skype almost daily), and she's visited him for the past 3 summers.

With the state of the world, the future is more than a bit uncertain (someone would have to immigrate for them to live on the same continent), but they're doing a good job of staying in the moment and making the most of what they have :)

I totally understand! Does Kira journal or blog?

Wow, they've really known one another a long time! This sounds GOOD! And yes, the way the immigration policy works for Europeans into America is so complicated. I have a girlfriend who finally gave up and moved to Berlin to be with her husband who actually had a job teaching at SF State and they still wouldn't let him in. :(

I think it never hurts to be prepared as best you can because you just never know what's around the corner. I don't mean in a paranoid way, but in a responsible way. It seems only sensible.

I'm seriously confused by the polls this week, but have been baffled for a while, truthfully.

Philistine I may be, but I have no interest in the eclipse. :-\

I'm still enjoying Riverdale. Not sure what I'll watch next. Netflix has Outlander if it's "burr" your after. The acting isn't bad, the writing is okay, but there is horrible, horrible sadistic cruelty. There's much I can't stomach. But the burr is lovely.

We need to talk prepping, M! D is really getting into it. It goes against my sense of hope...but I can deal with it if I think about it more like common sense and approach it with a pioneer attitude.

No interest?! That surprises me! I don't think you would have seen anything up there anyway, right?

Loving Riverdale. Outlander is NOT for me ever ever ever. Someone rec'ed the book a few years back and I threw it in the garbage. Um...really? Have you seen Hinterland? Is The Vampire Diaries not for you? Let's see....did you ever watch Fringe?

I think there is hope in prepping. Hope that you'll survive to use up your stash. And it's not just horrible disaster, but just not being able to manage comfortably in the event you can't get to a store for a while. And boy have I had experience with that.

I don't know why eclipses don't do it for me. Back in the nineties, when the planets aligned, I thought that was cool, and saw it. I was going to Mom's, remembered, looked up and there they were. I must be weird. ;-))

Yeah, Outlander. Totally.

Every now and then I search Netflix for Scottish movies. You might find some burr that way. :-)

I watched the first season of Fringe, but after that no.

We got something like 91% totality here and Petra described it as the sun looking like a banana. Which I feel is accurate.

We always have a stash of emergency things juuuuuuuust in case, but I tell you things will have to be like ~fifty years past apocalypse for me to break open another MRE. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

Though perhaps our rubbermaid tote is a bit smaller than what the Viking has in mind maybe?

Hello! (uncertain whether I should wave or hide, considering my irregular bystoppping .. ;))

There is a Nick Cave graphic novel coming?! I want! I need! And it's even an European publisher, wow. Pre-ordering as we speak. Thank you for being my ever-giving source of goodness!

What is your Viking preparing for, might I ask? Weather catastrophes announced, or...? (Sorry if this is stupid, but I truly might have missed everything, again.)

*glomps* Yes, yes, a Nick Cave graphic novel! I mean, really?????

I think political unrest. Maybe he's worried about North Korea, too. It's all so fucking depressing.

HOW ARE YOU???? Are you writing? Where are you blogging??? LJ is in its death throes and it's terrible. I don't know where to go. I'm thinking of setting up a Wordpress until the Next Big Thing.

*glomps back* Hiii!

Um yeah, I get all that. There are weeks when I just don't stomach the news and I read fiction and pretend nothing is real anyway /o\ I have entered a strange state of absurdity, which... might be bad?

But that aside, I'm grateful to say I'm really okay! Still writing! And still sure this is the way to go. And seeking out the exchange with the Wise Elders. This November, I'm camping up in a flat with four middle-aged ladies to write and drink red wine. I'm really looking forward to it ;)

I have reanimated my DW, though to me it seems like most (not all) people are still using LJ for now? How about you? Wordpress sounds like a good idea! It's not really as much of a network, but yeah, LJ has grown silent anyway.
I am also sort-of updating my website now, publishing writing and blogging about culture related stuff: http://www.johannakompacher.com/kulturjournal - It's a start ;)

How are you? And your many writing projects?
