* This article is deeply disturbing and psychologically fascinating - Human Trophies. As the keeper of a human skull....I really found truth in it.

* Enjoying my deep foray into story with IT. Not my usual fare and yet so liberating and entertaining and engrossing.

* I want all of you to watch Westworld.

Here's a story you'll like: Barbed Wire and Brown Skulls by Loren Eiseley.

I haven't read It yet, but it sounds like it's more interesting than I'd supposed, so perhaps I will some time. WestWorld sounds extremely interesting, but I don't have the tech to watch it.

Best of luck with the poll! *hugs*

Ooooh, thanks for that link!!!

If you don't mind being frightened, then you could do worse than King's "IT". I am beginning to see some smaller missteps, but it's still a hugely formidable piece of writing. He's an epic storyteller.

It's frustrating how complicated TV is today. It pisses me off.

You're surely welcome! Loren Eiseley is a master, and The Night Country, that has that story, is one of his best books, though it's also his darkest. The Star Thrower is amazing too, and contains one of my favorites, The Dance of the Frogs (PDF).

I haven't been frightened by supernatural fiction since my college days - I've read and watched too much of it, and have no belief in any of it. I wouldn't say I'm frightened by descriptions of real evil - human evil - either; however, I do think it's unhealthy to soak my brain in that sort of thing too much. Descriptions of rape and torture of the innocent don't scare me; they make me feel like killing all the evil-doers, which is not a state of mind I need to cultivate.

It sounds like it's got a great deal of rape and torture of the innocent by human evil-doers, plus a gang-bang by children, and who knows what other unsavory human crap, so... I dunno. I read Dr. Sleep and The Dome this summer; they were both pretty good - King can definitely keep a long story moving, that's for sure.

theferrett wrote an incredible story, Shadow Transit, that's the scariest I can think of off-hand. My original review of it said
"Beautifully written; intensely disturbing; made me cry. It's rare to find a truly grim and distressing horror story in which nobody dies, there's no sex, torture, weapons or bad guys, and that also doesn't violate any known laws of science. So for those of you who like hauntingly sad and creepy tales, I highly recommend this one. And for those of you who have problems with the M&D ('Morbid & Depressing) genre, I highly recommend you leave this one alone."
*grin* Enjoy!

These are AMAZING links!!!! Thank you, sweets!

And I do agree with you about thinking twice before one spends/expends precious time and energy on something that can truly fill your chi with so much negativity.

Debating whether or not to watch Westworld. Now that I have HBO Now it's doable, but I have so many other shows I need to catch up on/Start.

Westworld looks interesting.

Any chance of pushing the IT discussions to mid-October, I don't think I'll get to the end by the 1st at this rate.

I am really loving Westworld because it's intellectual and that's a nice change from the lustiness of TVD and TO!

We can start the discussions slow, J! How are you coming along?
