one day baby....we'll be old

* Eighteen acres and a 2/1 on the coast? Yes please. D and I are back to considering the second half of our lives. I am feeling utterly overwhelmed by this need to be near the sea. I can't explain it, not sure if it warrants explanation. It's not a desire that is on a mind level, it's a heart's desire. D is breaking it down, our plans, into three options. First, this ocean fantasy. Second, we begin waiting, watching, offering on ridge properties up here. We live in the deep dark forest of a volcanic ridge. That means that on either side of this ridge are properties that have expansive views out over the valley. These properties are highly sought after because the views are something astonishing. I have one friend with a great log cabin on the west side and he actually has a room set up for just watching the view. It's got a huge plate glass window with two recliners in front of it and small fridge loaded with wine and craft brew. He says he and his wife sit there each evening and every morning rather than in front of a television. It makes sense. The Valley is something to behold. We are up above the clouds and when the clouds are thick they roll towards the ridge like a white foaming sea. At night you can see the cars on the coastal range and emergency vehicles down on the interstate. Further smaller ridges beckon the hiker and from some of the ridge properties you can actually drop down into the valley and hike across. So, that's an option insofar as I seem to be wanting a horizon to stare at. The third option is an RV.

* I'm at another standstill with the room applications. I simply can't seem to commit to furniture. And it's not just the cost...it's the fact that once the furniture is purchased, the room is committed to that design. Office? Craft? Guest quarters? It's all making me crazy and I'm slowly backing up, which leaves everything still a chaotic mess.

* D wants to go on a long hike down to the creek. It's very wet outside, alternating between raining and uh, raining. So I may sit this one out.

* Almost done with my Idol reading. Whew! The prompt this week was "Where I'm From" and I debated, as I've done every week this Season, going non-fic. I don't think most would care to read my sad stories....so instead I just mull and mull them over inside my own head and write instead a fictional sad story that sets its hooks. But all this introspection which I don't usually indulge in has had me rethinking some basic premises I used to hold about my life. I know we are a nomadic peoples but I'm thinking that moving every three years is not good for growing humans. All that water flowing under a single bridge.

My fave threesome adds a fourth. Anyone on the flist know what happened to the original video?

One of Shawn's coworkers is retiring. Their youngest just left and they sold everything, bought a huge camper and a jeep to tow behind and they are just spending their second half touring he States. Sounds nice really.

But I'd rather have a house on the coast.

Haven't we all had THAT fantasy?? I can't imagine it realistically though. And D says he's never going to really retire...

A house on the coast is my dream.

Have you considered that you might be a selkie? They show up once in awhile in Idol stories. Perhaps you're a selkie who married a mountain troll. Find someplace where the mountains come down to the sea, with great views of the ocean and mountains, inherit several million dollars, and you'll both be set. Or use your new millions to buy two places and spend time in each, like Persephone. Except that means you're married to Hades. Never carry a thought too far. Trouble awaits.

Or Njörd married to Skadi.

Have you read the Eddas? If not, you might find them interesting.

HAHAHAHAHAHA to both of you! ;)

I have read the Eddas. I actually started a Norse fairy tale years ago...I wonder if I still have those files somewhere about. I wrote a Norse-based piece for S9.

I thought I owned both, but now I can't find either. I probably lost them the last time the Vikings plundered our house.

Love the song!

The ocean view is fantastic. The house looks a treat. A little to far away from the water for my taste. I'd love to be in walking distance of the sea one day. Thing is, the sea in Germany is only in the north where it's really cold most of the year. But the sea speaks to me as well.

I keep returning to that thought, too. Where do I want to live the rest of my life? What's important? I want to have dogs. That means I would be happiest with either a big wild garden or near the woods so I can let them run. Beach would be a nice extra. But I could possibly live with a river or lake. :-)

About the room: I keep changing mine. Currently, my office is also the craft room, and it has an extra bed in it that can be used either for guests or (more often) for me so I can escape when J is snoring ;-)

I want to set aside some time this year to go and seriously look at homes and land for sale on the coast. Either make this a possibility or rule it out for good.

Once we have this place paid off...in three more years...then we will have much more freedom to follow and pursue our dreams!

I had to get rid of the extra beds because they were making the rooms far too multi-use for my one-track brain!

I hope you find the dream you wish for :)

The house looks fantastic, the ocean view captivating. I'm a must-take-shoes-off-and-paddle-big-waters person. On the beach would be perfect for me. You could always check out B.C. Ocean, and mountains!

It's too bad you can't thrift your rooms, watch them become, rather than decorate. Does that make sense?

Maybe some quiet alone time is just what you need. Stay warm and cozy!

Had two days out last week so I am way behind on my idol reading.

I need some ocean icons! I'm currently obsessed with views, M! And hiking! That place would offer both!

I've tried to let the rooms "become" and it hasn't worked. I need to get the bones down in the way of furniture and then let them evolve. The other issue is craft storage. I have a huge stash of yarn and fabric and patterns....

So much Idol reading! Entries are all over the map and it's very time-consuming because of that!

I managed to read and comment on all of the entries, but six I skimmed and voted because the deadline was overtaking me. Afterward I went back, read more thoroughly and commented. There is such a feeling of relief when I get my votes in. Must say the new topic leaves me with nothing to say. (Wink)

Such beautiful views, and you will hear the ocean. I expect you will smell it and taste it on the wind. The house looks like it won't need much work.

Storage is always an issue. Do you keep your patterns in binders or a file cabinet?

Norse mythology can get deeply weird, and I'm sure it's a fertile ground for your imagination.
