Eight players left in therealljidol and this week we say goodbye to two!!! I enjoyed interpreting the prompt negatively, sometimes time simply does not heal all wounds and sometimes some pain and patience don't pay off. Ever. I used our local swimming hole as the site of the horror because we all spent a day down there last week. The bear are out in force this year and there was plenty of sign of them on the way and at the campsite. We didn't go to the "secret spot" two miles downstream because it's such a hike and it was so bleeding hot! But it was perfect fodder for the prompt!

There are some great entries this week. You can find them by following this link to the poll -

The Real LJ Idol Week 27 Poll

Thank you!

* I would share some great creek pix with you, but I'm boycotting Photobucket because really? I'm done. And trying to download my thousands of images there is proving to be impossible and that is enraging me. How on earth do they think this is a good business decision for them? *stab*

* I'm midway through my, oh, fifth or so re-reading of AS Byatt's Possession. I love it madly and it is such literary comfort food to me. It always provides something new. Always! Sometimes I read for the modern love story, sometimes for the poets' love story, and this time I'm reading for the epistolary story. Yum.

* And I am in need of comfort food because this Paleo is boring as hell. It's been pretty easy to stick with it, although I miss my milk and yogurt. But dull and boring. So much meat and eggs and veggies. The fruit is nice. Oh, and apparently dark chocolate is Paleo??? I've definitely lost weight and that's a plus. But I don't see how I could ever maintain this long-term. I've decided I'm not going to go back to cow's milk, though. I am going to go back to the goat milk, yogurt, and cheese.

* The final season of The Vampire Diaries is agony. Utter agony for me. I cannot stand the Siren arc. I hate what's happened to my baes Bonnie and Enzo. I can only watch it if I'm simultaneously knitting in order to keep myself distracted.

* Kidling1 leaves on Saturday. *cries* So we're stuffing as much as we can into our time. HUGE Harry Potter film fest which is so nostalgic that it actually does make me cry. Visiting folks, shopping, and now packing. Her overage for bags came to - wait for it - $180 when she flew here. Uh, no. That's not happening again. So we've been packing up boxes for UPS and our trip in October. I have no idea why she thought she needed to pack so many clothes and shoes!!!

Still listening to Vance and loving him. Not sure why this starts out sounding like Van Morrison's "Sweet Thing" but it becomes it's own thing soon enough -

Loved, loved your Idol entry!

It's lovely learning the background and inspiration of your story. Makes it even more special to me. I've been spoiled by Stephen King because he often shares that kind of info, especially with his short story collections. I suppose that over the years he's been asked so many times where his ideas come from that he just offers it freely. It's a thing I love, from every writer I love...and that means Y O U!

Sorry to hear Kidling1 is heading back to school. But then, it's good she's going back because she is so close to coming home to study for the bar. *hugs*

Thanks, M! *hugs* I, too, love "shop talk" when it comes to writing. Unlike other types of dissection, I don't think talking inspiration takes anything away from the craft or the work. Oftentimes it can add to a piece or to one's own inspiration!

That is true! And we are trying to keep it in mind! She is on track to be back for good next May, studying, doing pre-Bar work and then getting a job!

The stuff with PhotoBucket is so stupid! I've never really used it, but still find it annoying.

Glad you've managed to lose some weight using the Paleo.

I haven't put myself through the last season of TVD. Not sure it's worth it yet.

Aww, sorry Kidling 1 is leaving soon.

I'm stunned that Photobucket thinks this is a good idea. It's terrible to see how many forums they've destroyed.

I'll do a final TWD write-up, season and show, but right now this season is not worth the effort. :(

what's going on with photobucket?
Aug. 11th, 2017 04:05 pm (UTC)
They've decided that they will no longer allow embedded hosting. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's destroying forums. All the photos are gone. Mine are still up because I have a subscription, but that ends this year and then they want...this is unbelievable....$50 a month if you want to share your pictures on other sites. $30 a month if you are willing to use links. It's really a strange decision.

Yeah that's ridiculous. I have a few pictures there, but I don't think I've used the site in years.

I do not know how you do that diet on no dairy. I wouldn't last a week. Keto lets you have dairy but takes away most fruit. Nommy fruit.

Photobucket can suck it. I have so many icons there. Like thousands and thousands.

I have had a lifelong love affair with all things dairy...but the past two weeks have surprised me. I feel...there's no good word to describe it...definitely better. I'm not waking up congested! There's enough good goat milk products available that I'm not feeling such a keen loss by switching.

I don't know who advised Photobucket on this decision.

I too am annoyed by photobucket. Looking around for a similar platform to put my stuff. Does Imgur work well?

The final season is supposed to be agony I think.

*Huggles* Best of wishes to kidling!

I'm torn between Imugr and Flickr. I've heard good things about both.

Cool thanks :)

Just like LJ, I guess we're going to be waiting around for "the next big thing" in regards to hosting sites and platforms and mediums. GRRRRR!!

Agony by way of revulsion, though??? And I just discovered it's a truncated season. At this point, I just want it over....

What are you up to, J?
Aug. 12th, 2017 03:19 pm (UTC)
Sigh. I didn't realise how much of my stuff was hosted from photobucket until I saw all the things with pictures not showing.

Maybe you'll like the second half of the season better. I really really liked it towards the end.

Not up to much, same old, same old.

As a fellow bear country resident, your Idol piece really got me. They are wild animals that demand respect. And the occasional blood sacrifice.

A.S. Byatt! *builds shrine, genuflects before it*

I cut out a lot of dairy except for cheese and the occasional yogurt ten years ago when I developed lactose intolerance. It did help with my congestion quite a bit.

Oh, packing. I understand Kidling1's dilemma. I always pack way too much or not enough. If there's a happy medium I haven't found it.
Aug. 12th, 2017 02:52 pm (UTC)
Thanks, ryl! That means a lot coming from another bear country gal! I love the idea of a blood sacrifice...hmmmmm.....

Byatt is QUEEN. Period.

It's interesting to see a connection between congestion and dairy. And skin and dairy. I'm curious to see what happens when I reintroduce goat's milk.

i never used photobucket and i'm really glad now because i bet it's the biggest pain in the ass to get all your pics off it, nevermind dealing with all the broken image links when you do. i can't imagine they're going to be around much longer.

how is dark chocolate paleo? o.O i'm glad it's working for you, tho, even with the lack of yogurt and cheese. mmmm, cheese.
Aug. 12th, 2017 02:51 pm (UTC)
I would never have thought that Photobucket would be on the ropes, but I have to agree with you. It's over for them. And yeah, getting all those images downloaded is proving to be a joke. VERY aggravating.

I have no idea how the Paleo-folks have deemed dark chocolate paleo, but I'm not going to argue it! :) I guess because...it contains no sugar? Goat's milk yogurt is pretty good! And goat cheese is yum, but a soft cheese. We'll see how I feel after another two weeks.
