Week 28 of therealljidoland we are at six contestants and one is being voted off the writing island this week. I would love to tell you that the polls are about the writing, but I think we've moved past that point now. Don't get me wrong, the writing is still good, but the voting is leaning towards some other measurement. We wrote two entries this week, hence two polls, but the combined votes will decide. Please click through here and VOTE!!

The Real LJ Idol Polls

I enjoyed writing my two pieces although neither is a particularly enjoyable read. I had about a zillion different opening paragraphs for a zillion different directions. For "Going Forward" I was working with the idea of Persephone becoming pregnant with herself/Kore and the summer lasting longer while she hoped to carry to term. But, of course, there can be no life in the Underworld...so you can guess how that turns out. Very much like "Lost" which took so many viewers so long to realize was a Purgatory allegory. But the North Korea threat has been hanging on me like a shroud, so I ditched the Persephone and went with the 4 Horseman and the end of times. We can, actually, wipe this planet out of existence. Much of that piece came from talking with my father last Friday evening while we waited for the stars to shower down, and him relaying warhead tests from a plane and how they were instructed to bury their heads in their arms and how they could see their skeletons through their skin....

"Fatal Flaw" is a bit stale for me, being an English Lit major and spending nearly every day of undergrad discussing Hamartia. But I did begin a story about a man who marries his mother only to remind myself, that's been done. I tend to rail against the idea of being marked....so I went in the obstreperous direction of someone who believes they do have a fatal flaw only to discover that someone else's hamartia pushed its way into their story.

* I told myself if I could finish the entries I could finish "The Vampire Diaries". I only had a handful of episodes of Season 8 left, so I stayed up until the wee hours. I'm so glad I did, I really needed to be done with that rewatch/watch. I thought most of S7 and S8 were terrible. But the Finale was, indeed, grand and maybe not worth so much pain - Tyler, Enzo - but a fair exchange for time spent and emotion invested. It is always better when a show knows it has to wind itself to an end and I'm glad TVD got that opportunity. Thoughts, I haz 'em if you want to discuss in comments. Now I also have a warren full of rabid plot bunnies.

* Looking for something new, I opted for "Riverdale" even though I've only seen one flister talking about it! OH WOW! It's something amazing. Not earth shaking, but seriously top notch set and costume design, story, character, and casting. It's an impressive attempt to take a beloved cast of comic/cartoon characters and bring them to a strange and vivid life. It's a high school serial but feels, in a Jungian way, as though it is archetypes in high school, or adults trapped in a high school-like dreamworld. I really am loving the heck out of it. The combination of station wagons and cell phones is worth the price of admission alone!

* Three weeks of paleo today and I'm hearkening back to the feelingof anorexia. I have lost about five pounds and that makes me happy. I have definitely changed some basic body chemistry - no dairy, no sugar, very little carbs. And I do feel more energetic for the most part. It's a physical sensation that is hard to describe...but the past few days haven't been great. So, I'm going to begin modifying with whole wheat bread and pasta, goat's milk yogurt, and bulletproof coffee. Try that for another week or so....

* One of my sisters has asked for a phone sock, so I'm knitting. It's putting me in mind of gift knitting, so I'm beginning to make lists. Kidling1 wants to learn how to knit lace, and that's got me thinking about more complicated gifts. I need to get the craft room sorted so that I can find yarn and needles and even....maybe...begin a few rag dolls and waldorf-inspired dolls.

New Robert Plant. Not sure how I feel about it. Yet. But gods, how I love this man's voice -

*glomps* Yes, YOU!!! I didn't want to link you because I didn't want you to feel obligated to check back into LJ. I know it's a mess. :( It's killing me...but I'm here until Idol runs its course and then....who knows? I want a word/blog-based platform and right now there simply isn't anything coming close to what LJ was in its heyday.

Riverdale is fantastic! I'm so so so impressed by it. It gives me hope that there are more amazing serialized shows in the future!

I felt I had to finish TVD. I owe it a lot in terms of fannishness. It gets loopier but it does offer closure and I'm glad I stuck with it. Not sure others feel the same. ;)
