i was busy dreaming about boys

* Just a quick check-in because Idol is all about four entries this week. I'm writing two fiction entries, one essay, and trying to make a decision about what I think is my best Season 10 entry! All this by Monday evening. Yikes!

* Finished Riverdale last night and it really was worth the time. It got quite creepy by the end and morphed into the perfect teenage fear - the belief that all adults are liars. And connivers. What I particularly liked about it was how conflicted the teen characters are while the adults are are portrayed as solid and unwavering until the end when all of that unravels. It certainly had some serious missteps....most specifically in Archie's promiscuity and a strange non-motivation on the part of another character for familicide, but the arcs hold together overall and the stylization is absolutely fun and engaging and creative.

* Hinterland can't hold a formulaic candle to Shetland.

* Gotta get back to hammering keys.

This is thoroughly enjoyable and my boy Vance makes a quick appearance at the near end -

You had so many truly wonderful entries this season, I don't know how you will choose. Big hugs for your hard decisions.

*hugs* Thanks, M! I'm so glad you think so! It's been a loooooong weekend of writing. And I hope for the better, what with the extra time!

What are you up to?

Not too much, but my friend Guenter (who will be ninety in October) asked me to make a cover for his cushion. So on Thursday I went through my fabric stash, found a nice corduroy I bought in the eighties or nineties that is like a black/gray/beige pinstripe, and some muslin for an inner cover so when he takes the cover off to launder it will look nice.

E, I haven't sewn with a machine in probably more than a decade. And I have never sewn anything with my little Janome that I treated myself with for my birthday almost a decade ago--because I was scared! But on Thursday night I got up out of bed and cut and ironed the fabric, and on Friday I opened up the machine, and the instruction manual and just did it. Much like the way I write, terrified, but trying. He was so pleased with it when I gave it to him at church yesterday. And I'm so pleased to do something for him because he's done so much for me.

September is going to be my cleaning and mending month. I kept my dress pants that are WaY too big, a dress I like, and a fuchsia top I like. I want to alter them to fit, so I'll have them for the Feast in October. If worst comes to worse, I haven't truly lost anything. So it's good to know I can use the machine.

That's my big news. ;-)

That IS big news, M! Sewing can be cathartic and the ability to take a piece of fabric and transform it into usable object is really so satisfying! This is a great story about the cushion cover! I'm looking forward to hearing about your foray into tailoring!

I am approaching it with the same trepidation with which I approach almost everything. ;-)

Kira and I finished Riverdale yesterday -- we binged on it for a few days, and both enjoyed it immensely!!

(I would also have liked either more motivation, or more mystery-to-be-unraveled, about the murderous character.)

At least Season 2 starts in October...

Yay for Riverdale! So glad to hear you dug it. That's you two, me, and kittytoes now. Fandom, where have ye gone? :( And yes, did not understand Poppa Blossom at all. And I loved how Cheryl grows and grows on you!

And that ending!

How are things down your way, A????
