* Phew! Got the complicated therealljidol portfolio challenge posted up yesterday! It was quite a bit of work in that it was actually THREE prompts and thoughtful consideration for what one considers one's best entry of the season. I'm not sure I picked right because now there's some confusion about how we are going to vote on all this writing! I will let you guys know as soon as it's ironed out, but I do know that it's going to require reading, tallying, and emailing your votes! Mayhaps this approach will make the voting more about the writing? Not sure yet.

* I'm missing my friends The Vampire Diaries. Riverdale was tons of fun and I do recommend it but it wasn't the same as those crazy vampires. Guess I'll start in on The Originals. I just need something to watch while I knit.

* I kindled a sample of If We Were Villains last night and I think I'm going to throw the ducats at it. It's like a cross between Tam Lin and The Secret History. The allusions and pithy quotations in casual speech stretch credulity but okay. And because I spent my frosh year at uni in the company of thespians, thinking my English degree was going to go in the direction of returning to the UK to study Shakespeare....the book does twang on my heartstrings a bit. I just don't want to see it go in a YA Harry Potter direction....I'll let you guys know.

* I think I'm going to set up a wordpress blog. Shedmilkteeth or skull-theatre, o' wise flisters? I think I still have flaycrow, too!

I'm looking forward to reading your Portfolio. Remember, my vote can be bought!

Just for fun, I've been working on another Stanley story (Cowboy, Teddy Bear Detective) from the point of view of the mother.

Thanks, G! *scribbles out personal check in the amount of $$$$ and sticks it into the post*

Funny you should mention Stanley! I had my two faves of the season for No. 1. prompt down to your cowboy and yachiru's tailed girl....I thought I would pen an essay about brilliant short short stories...but once I began I realized that was a bit...crass? to critique a story that hadn't been asked to be critiqued. So I went with the girl story so that I could attempt to condense it more. There was absolutely nothing I could do in the way of inspiration from your work because you are so utterly unique and thorough in your storytelling voice!

Thank you! I would love to have read your critique. It's how we can improve. Yachiru is an excellent writer, and I can see why you chose her and that particular story.

So you do yarny things while watching TV too? *raises a skein in your direction* I'm going to catch up on the last bit of watchin' I have while all my shows are on Labor Day break. I have a little bit of the first Twin Peaks left and a lot of Midsomer Murders (I'm trying to catch up to what PBS is showing).

Idol voting is going to be work this week. Gary really ramped up the evil for this.

By The Secret History do you mean The Secret History? I just pulled that off Irish Storyteller's shelf last night because I was in the mood for Byzantine history and The Alexiad was bo. ring.

I'm going to start a Wordpress for my mini book reviews. Don't know when, though.

Knitting and watching TV! FTW! I need to queue Twin Peaks. Is Midsomer worth the time??? I rec Shetland and Hinterland and Fortitude!

HAHAHAHAHA! No, I do not mean that Secret History. I mean Donna Tartt's uni experience and Latin scholars.

You and wordpress and book reviews would be truly inspired reading. Do this.

Midsomer is interesting just for the experience of how the Brits do a crime drama. It's much quieter than American murder mysteries in that there's not so much shooting and yelling, but at the same time the crimes are much more shocking. There's one episode where the chief inspector's wife was in a performance of Amadeus that still has me O_O.

Brits are really the masters of crime drama. You do know Prime Suspect, eh?

I will queue up Midsomer. You should watch Shetland!

I just downloaded it.

Remember: if you see a middle-aged woman riding a bicycle in Midsomer, she's usually the town busybody.

this week's idol prompt makes me so glad i didn't participate this year, altho the chances of me making it this far are about zero. i thought your pick for best piece of the season was a good choice! it was an intriguing and mysterious story, well-told.

that is a very weird but really cool cover of wonderwall. i like her voice.

It's CRAZY MAKIN', C!!!! If you take the time to read everything and vote by email then ma'am my hat is off to you!!! Thanks for saying that about that piece. I was trying to round out my...versatility? Ha! But I was trying...to do something...before I heard how complicated the voting is. Anyway, it's a fun game until...it's not.

Cat is amazing!!! She's a dark sultress for sure.

Yay for portfolio, I look forward to reading it.

Yes, watch The Originals! Season 4 had such a gorgeous perfect ending, I really think they should've finished on that. I don't see how they're going to end season 5 better. I'm going to make a post about Vampire Diaries and The Originals at some point when I get around to it.

Ooh, wordpress blog sounds cool.

I was fully prepared to say I prefer the Oasis version of the song, but wow. That is an awesome version.

I miss your voice, J, and your stories. :(

I think....after this Idol season is done...we should discuss reviving the TWD fandoms here on LJ. Even if it's just you and I writing for one another. The show deserves some rewatches, and meta, and fic.

Cat is a Queen!

Aww, thank you. I've considered posting some of my avengers & Loki fics on LJ, but I don't think anyone on my LJ will be interested in them. I'm hoping to write more in September.

I don't know if I have the energy for reviving, it feels a bit like flogging a dead horse at this point. But yes, I would definitely go for us writing for each other re rewatches and meta and the like.

Go with your amazon author name. If someone goes looking for you, you'll want a page for them to land on and engage with. I say this having zero hits on my page except for the [redacted] suing me. (also, put in stat counter so you know who's coming for a visit)

But yeah, author name blog would be a good thing.

hi!
