raindrops fallin' on that old tin roof

* It's raining. And rain is one of my most favourite things so that's a good thing. It's practically night out right now and yet it's the middle of the day. I bet we get thunder and lightning, too.

* The sculpting class is proving to be a good thing for me. It's always exciting to drop yourself into an entirely new setting, new people, new activities. I recommend you do this once every few years or so. Anyway, the instructor is eighty years old and the other student, there's only two of us although it was advertised for ten but the studio owner isn't good at advertising, is seventy-four. I'm amazed by these vital people. Vital. And connected with life and to life. So very different from my parents who are nearly the same age as these two folks. Ugh. How do we hold onto meaningfullness? How do we stay engaged? The studio itself is so cool that just being there makes me all swoony. I wish the owner was more....capable? She has all this room and stuff and there's potential for huge creative energy but I find her to be a self-destructive individual and perhaps taking on such a huge project has wiped her out. The studio is less than a year old. But I tend to be a fixer and want to supervise people into rising to another level and that's one thing I want to dampen in my newer ventures. I cannot be the change that some need. It's exhausting and really not the best way for me to funnel my energies. But I do want to sculpt and next week we are going to tackle a figurative bust which will be pretty nice after abstract building. Can I still do it???

* I'm so in love with The Originals right now it's cuckoo. I have always loved Elijah, from his very first appearance on The Vampire Diaries and my deep love for him continues. I've written some Elijah fic, and the very first Elijah fic I ever wrote was dark!fic for an old TWD dark comm ellensmithee ran - Lying In State. Miss those days. Anyway, he is such a unique character and Gillies plays him to extraordinary perfection. I think I'm ready to write some new fanfiction!

* Slowly working my way into IT. I think taking it in small bites is the best way and it's written so that reading it like that is optimum. King has a flare for dialogue and a gift for story-weaving. It's been like a compact lesson in writing, to read this tome without getting sucked into the unknown. I think there's worth in rereading fantastic books....educationally.

* Westworld still delivers and this show! Such a stellar cast. Hopkins is another vital senior citizen. #lifegoals

* D has next week off and we are debating escaping to the shore for a few days or really tackling some overdue house projects. We have decided to rip out all of the domestic landscaping and create a wild foresty look around the house. A Tahoe style setting, with the trees limbed up and the undergrowth cleared out to about fifte feet and then a gradual giving over to the forest.

I would love to take a sculpting class. Clay work is one of my fave art mediums.

Mine, too! You should take a class if you can squeeze one in.

I'm so glad that the sculpting class is feeling inspiring and revitalizing!! :D

You might enjoy this article about "IT" (she also wrote one about the movie), although it does contain spoilers. Don't know whether you'd rather avoid them during a re-read, or if they're fine since you already know the plot.

This, too -- a critical review of the book by another author.

Thank you for the links, A!!! I will definitely take a look at them! I need to begin writing out some of my thoughts in longer form but I really hope we get some back-and-forth because I think this book really warrants discussion more than essaying!

My husband loves the rain. Me, not so much. :)

Good luck with your sculpting project.

I loved that old comm. Sad to discover yesterday that you had deleted it.

Ugh, sorry. I had a freakout a while back and deleted the comms I owned. I didn't realize people were still reading there.

Glad you're enjoying sculpting class. It is amazing how active people of that age can be. My aunt is very active, running around making feasts for dinner parties and chasing after the grandkids.

Yay for The Originals. Elijah is one of my favourites too! It is awesome! What ep are you up to? I'm considering doing something at the tvd_originals comm. when season 5 begins as it is the last season. Maybe a comment ficathon or fic exchange. The comm. probably won't last past the end of the series, but I enjoyed running it in its hay day. Might as well have one last hurrah before the lights go out.

I now really want to watch Westworld, any idea when it's becoming UK accessible?

Ooh those sound like some cool renovations.

I intend to remain active, J, both physically but also mentally AND emotionally. It's far too easy to allow ourselves to become stagnant. New experiences, new lusts for life.

I'm at S4.5. I don't want this show to wreck Elijah/Hayley and am frustrated by The Red Door arc...also, we've seen this argument before that vampires need to be something different than they are...and it just doesn't hold up. No one can ever be freakin' happy in Plec's world. Or tv in general I guess. When is S5 slated to return?

We finished Westworld last night and I really recommend it. I don't know about scheduling. It's HBO and I think S1 ended a while ago.

I think we need to see where that arc goes, hopefully it will have a good resolution. I haven't seen an exact date for season 5, I think sometime in early 2018.

Although I eventually rage quit both shows I always had a soft spot for Elijah and Gilles' portayal :) Sadly I don't have the icon still uploaded of past!Elijah's long hair blowing in the breeze!

Elijah is definitely king. At what point did you quit both shows? I got over my rage with TWD in order to finish it...and was happy I did. Although it certainly got very weak and think towards the end there. I originally quit The Originals at the beginning of S2 because I can't stand witchy arc and was tired of the dead vengeful parent trope.

TVD - I was sick of Stefan (be human Elena, reproduce and die!) being lauded over Damon (I love you whatever Elena but I'd prefer to be with you forever) but it was Caroline's magical pregnancy (that trope needs to die, along with the Gemini Coven in its entirety because their whole existence relying on a sacrifice of a twin is screwed up) and the shitty handling of it that had me nope out.

The Originals - end of second season I think. Marty-Sue Klaus and his Mary-Sue Hayley's offspring is a Mary-Sue squared and when she was a shouldn't exist Original!Vampire-Hybrid-Wolf!Queen-AND-Powerful!Witch I was done with the bullshit. It's like terrible fanfic, how many super-special abilites can you heap on a character?!
Elijah deserved a better show :P I once did a fic with him being friends with Jenna, who also deserved better.

These are excellent rage points. And I remember feeling the same way during live time. But I will say that I'm glad I returned and tried again. Far from perfect writing and tying up of storylines...but I do love these characters and enjoy them regardless of crap storytelling.

I don't care for witchy arcs. And I think most witch/magic arcs become such a total copout for creating truly abysmal plot twists and resolutions. I think both TVD and TO failed its viewers with the witches. ugh. But I do like vampires and werewolves and on that end there were some truly intriguing stories....

I found BtVS to be far worse in story than TO, though. But yes, TVD really got screwy at the end. I blame Plec entirely. She's in love with character but really isn't good at story.

Where is this Elijah and Jenna fic??????

I never hated Buffy the way I did so many of Plec's plots though; she's obsessed with babies. I don't want female showrunners if they're going to treat women as babymakers not just as much but *more* than male showrunners. The gemini coven witch arc was ridiculous too!

The fic, Call Me Maybe, is here:http://archiveofourown.org/works/1656992
vaguely cracky and rather fluffy :P (If I'd written more it would have got fluffier and deeper into the relationship but alas me and my abandoned sequel ideas!)

Thanks for the comment! If I wasn't so sad right now and hadn't written for days again I'd almost be tempted to write the sequel :)

Sculpting sounds fabulous! I'm so glad you're having a good time.

I'm thinking about the mules. I miss them.

*smooch* How are YOU? I am having a good time. Better than I've had in a while. The main gist...is "community", H. I've become pretty isolated.

The mules!!! I miss them, too. The corral has been dismantled now and the mule shed turned into a wood shed...

Your scultping class sounds wonderful. It's been years since I had my hands in clay. I should make my uncle by a wheel, so I can go over there and throw some pots. (Maybe at him!) ;-))

I wanna see what you're sculpting. Shaaaaaare. (Imma die on the IG hill, I know.) I want to take more sculpting classes and I want to learn how to cast. Those things are on my list.

I want to try Westworld. Have you watched Black Mirror? It is an anthology series, all about the fear of technology and some are really brilliant. We've only watched 3 and the third I keep thinking about. I think you might dig it.

WESTWORLD!!! I think you guys will dig this! We tried Black Mirror on a flister's rec a year or so back and omg it depressed the living hell out of me and I just couldn't continue with it.

I am working on a way to share photos here, but yes, I could post on IG!!! This coming week will be more about finished work than the rudimentary beginnings.

You will have time to do ALL THE THINGS, K. You will.

Yes, it is very very very dark. It absolutely cannot be binged. I get it.

I will say that of all the app combos, it is actually super easy to post from IG to LJ. There is a button in the tool bar. I also have an app that posts my IG photos directly to my Flickr (a widget in ITTT), and Flickr's app is actually quite nice now.

That's interesting! I lost my IG button/app here a few years ago and try as I might, I can't find a way to get it back! And I have a paid account! Hmmmm....
