it's just a kiss away

* It's Autumn! And it feels and smells and is beginning to look like Fall here. The nights are cold, the evenings and mornings cool, and the days are warm but with that hint of dampness around the edges. No woodstove fire YET but we have had to use the kerosene heater to take off the edge in the morning. My favourite season and yet I'm feeling a bit wistful because time really has sped up for me lately and I have no idea where Summer went or how it got there so fast.

* Trying to create a simple calendar for what remains of this year. Kidling1 is coming home for her Fall break because I screwed up and told Kidling2 that he and his gf could take a week-long vacation. I completely forgot that we needed him to stay home with the dogs while we took a roadtrip to Arizona. My brain, it can be sporadic. Anyway, she says she would rather get out herself so she's coming back here. Unfortunately, her brother will be on the other side of the country and we will be housebound. The Viking is going hunting during that time as well, so she and I will have to find some sort of local diversion. Then Thanksgiving is going to be large because my New York sister and her husband will be in the state for their future son-in-law's Navy Seal graduation. Then the four of them will be heading up here for the holiday. My mother has already decorated her house for Thanksgiving and well, yeah. Christmas we are on our own as my parents and local sister are flying out to New York for my niece's wedding. They will be spending Christmas and New Year's out there and that leaves us here because no one wants to fly back east in the winter. Kidling1 and I are considering going alone...but somehow that doesn't seem too realistic. Then 2018!

* Also NaNoWriMo! And the online bookclub for IT!

* NaNoWriMo - I think it's time to write something long. It's been years since I wrote long and it's simply time. I'm going to dedicate November to a novella. Perhaps Hades/Persephone? I know LJ ain't the horse we rode in on, but how many of you are planning on participating in National Novel Writing Month?

* Online bookclub begins next week! I'm almost halfway through this brick of a book! Page 570! Thoughts? I haz 'em. I hope you all have begun, too. Take notes! Save links! Go see Baby Skarsgard's interpretation of Pennywise!

NaNo: I'm going to revise my Rose Red story to novella length. I think it will bear the extra detail.

IT: Nope nope nope. All the clown pictures all over the internet are freaking me out.

I think the Rose Red NEEDS to be novella length and I think that's the perfect length for it! Yes!

Damn. I would have loved your introspective take on this tome! But I get it. (doesn't use Pennywise icon)

Dammit, I knew I shouldn't have deleted my Danish clowns icon.

NANO--hadn't thought of it, but maybe...Maybe I'll open another LJ account and write something the way you wrote your last novella. I have a story that's been tickling the gray stuff under my hat. I started it years ago. It's based on my faith, but otherwise is fiction. Not sure. Not sure if I actually want to sign up for it, or just piddle around on my own.

It! Can't wait to hear what everyone has to say. I haven't been taking notes--my bad.

Your description of Fall was so beautiful!

I will encourage you to start the writerly LJ and write! I'm curious to read your story now! NaNoWriMo is a great time to begin a new piece of writing. We will form a support group and help one another! I need to settle on a story.

IT!!!! I'm surprised by how not scary it actually is at this point in my life.

I'm jealous! It's been 90 degrees here for the past few days and is going to continue through tomorrow. I want fall!!

*boxes up some Autumn and sends it your way*

Oh also -- YES on Nano. I haven't quite decided if I want to tackle an original fic or use it to finally finish the latest fanfic that I've gotten stuck on. But I want to do it!
Sep. 27th, 2017 12:03 am (UTC)
Yay! I will make a NaNo post in October and see if there is a group of us here who want to cheerlead and pull beers and read! I need to jump back into OUaT and get current on the fic there!

I got IT for my kindle. Never read it before. How do you join the Book Club? Is there a specific site and may I be included?
Sep. 27th, 2017 12:04 am (UTC)
Re: IT
YES!!! I'm so jazzed that you're going to join in. Everyone is welcome! I haven't decided yet if I should make a dedicated comm...so right now it's just about the flist. I would recommend beginning the tome as I think we'll jump right in once October arrives!

Re: IT
I am on p. 77! out 1478! will keep going!

Sounds like you've got some fun in store!

I love your nano idea! Though that probably won't come as a surprise. Have you considered joining the actual nanowrimo website? There's a lot of awesome stuff there. I do plan on doing nano. Remember the series I wrote for Idol back at the beginning of this season, I'm planning on expanding that into a novel.

As always I am being terrible at book-club. Just found out one of my friends is having a birthday party all day Saturday and had planned to do a bunch of reading then. But will try and get as much read as I can.

I have never "officially" done NaNo, J! That's kinda crazy huh? I mean I've written numerous pieces for NaNo but just haven't gone to the website. Maybe I will do that.

I think you are so smart to expand on that fantastic scope! Will you be doing that here or on the website?

I will post in October to see if any of the flist want to cheerlead one another on. Maybe do a few shop talk posts to get us all in the mood!

Have you read IT before? At least get the first 16 pages under your belt. The opening is practically a stand-alone piece of perfection.
Sep. 27th, 2017 06:22 pm (UTC)
Yes, join, we can be nano-cabin-mates! Glad you think that's a good choice. I'll be mainly on the website, but may post updates and stuff here.

I haven't read IT before. Lol. I'm up to about page 50 at the moment.

Having done NaNoWriMo exactly once, I can say that the elements don't lend themselves well to what I do. I can't just start writing a story without knowing where it's going, which is the lesson I learned that one time!

And even with a structure, having that road map still means it's a marathon at a sprinter's pace which doesn't suit me at all. I think there have been a couple of novels that actually got published after their NaNoWriMo debuts, but I don't know that they were worth reading!

If you do it though, good luck. If nothing else, it's a great motivator to start writing and to continue writing... though I think the folks in Europe, Canada, Mexico, pretty much everywhere but the US have an advantage that Thanksgiving doesn't play into their Novembers!
Sep. 27th, 2017 12:09 am (UTC)
Nonsense! All long pieces are written one piece at a time. You don't have to officially do NaNo, but you can tap into the energy of it and pen a scene or two a week. I think the breakneck speed some folks write at isn't conducive to good finished work.

Thanksgiving is tricky. I need to take that entire week off.

it's been vaguely summery here and i wish it was more fall! so i'm kind of jealous of your weather. the leaves aren't really turning either. it a little weird.

i fully support you doing hades/persephone for nano. :D i have no idea what i'm going to write, but i have a month to think about it.

the previews for it are way too creepy for me and horror novels aren't my thing, but i love that you're doing an online book club. it's so cool.
Sep. 30th, 2017 03:03 pm (UTC)
I need some Fall icons. Remember the icon communities of olde?

Will you be doing NaNo here, C, or on the website? I'm thinking I will be posting a bit of shop talk leading up to November.

Hahahaha! It is creepy and scared the hell out of me when I was a teen...not so creepy or scary now. But yes to an online book club! Do you read any scary stuff?
Oct. 1st, 2017 10:53 pm (UTC)
i have a nano lj just for posting the novel-in-progress - smackenzie - but i talk about it on my own lj and visit the forums on the nano site A LOT. i love the forums.

i do not do scary books. i bought joe hill's 20th century ghosts because i want to broaden my horizons and get used to horror and figured i could handle short stories. (and he's supposed to be a good writer.) buuuut i still haven't read any of them, because apparently short horror is still too much horror. >.< it will probably still scare the crap out of me.
Sep. 29th, 2017 02:17 pm (UTC)
I still have to buy IT! I just finished the Vorrh. I literally don't know how I feel about it.

Novella is a great idea! You can do this, no prob.

Sep. 30th, 2017 03:04 pm (UTC)
Thanks, K. I need to write something dedicated to length. Three years of penning short short has definitely left me wanting "MORE"! We shall see. ;)
