there's a silver stream laid across the sky

* Beginning to ponder NaNo more seriously now. Head like a hive with all the buzzing and the trick will be to hone in on a particular idea. Or...a collection of particular ideas. I have a working title of "Letheon" and that feels like a small accomplishment. Heh. Shop Talk postings soon!

* Other than that, things are in a stasis type of place. Autumn is busy outside the doors and it's gorgeous. I'm reading books about writing rather than fiction. I'm watching silly Halloween-themed movies because that's what The Viking wants to do in the evenings so that he can fall asleep in his chair beside the woodstove. Taking long walks and trying to declutter. The fires have opened up good donation centers since so many have lost everything.

* I'm also casually playing around with two fanficcy things. The Originals and The Civil Wars. Nothing is really gelling yet, but I'm getting words down on paper.

* And that's it. What are you all up to?

Yay for Nano ideas! I'm pondering splitting my focus for Nano also. Though I think maybe I need to focus on one thing for once. I feel more passionate about a secondary project that I wasn't initially planning on doing for Nano- but it would require me to write in script format and I have no idea how to do that.

Ooh what are the fanficcy things?

I support splitting...unless one has an entire novel in their mind. Also, I support passion and if something is calling to you, do that! There are plenty of script formats available online, that's how I wrote a play in S9 of Idol! Also...I think Scrivener allows you to format like that? I could be wrong.

Fanficcy are Elijah's compulsion and a poetic lyrical thing about the Civil Wars, the band. Short. Nothing long or plotted.

Yeah, that's the thing I was going to try and write the novel. I might try to do both. I haven't used Scrivener, maybe I should try it.

Ooh sounds like good fic.

A beautiful autumn in the mountains, falling asleep by a wood stove -- it sounds perfect. I love "Letheon" - it sounds like H.P. Lovecraft or perhaps something involving Lethe. Or you could combine the two, and write about a monster that sends people into oblivion. Silliness aside, it does sound like a wonderful title.

Hahahaha, I really have to read some Lovecraft! This is Letheon based on the River Lethe! Although D and I were talking the other morning about spiders and ended up having a rousing discussion about chthonic and Cthulhu!!!

Your stasis actually sounds really lovely! :)

Mike and I are also watching Halloween type movies - we're watching horror movies all of October.

It IS lovely, I just don't feel as though I'm getting much done!

We have watched quite a bit of horror this month, too! I'm ready for something a bit lighter.

i'm getting excited about nano. i have no plot and only, like, four characters, but i'm excited. i like "letheon" as a title - i assume this means a retelling with greek gods and myths? cool. :D

it's only kind of fall here. i'm jealous of yours.

Haha, that sounds great, C! You are such a great plottist, I will look forward to seeing you write characters that tell YOU the plot!

I am pondering retelling myths! ;)

Drive up and see the colours!

I'm really overwhelmed at work at the moment and no end in sight, not even the lull from November to January which is usual in my industry (independent contractor in translating). As a result, I don't have much time for fannish stuff at the moment - my main passion is World of Warcraft, which has a really deep and rich lore attached to it, and I barely find time for that. I also listen to a lot of podcasts and youtube shows (mainly gaming, horror, comedy and true crime). TV-wise, I'm really into Star Trek Discovery and Riverdale at the moment (gotta love those noir teen series), as well as a number of sitcoms, which are my comfort watch nowadays. And since it's October, I've been reading and listening to a lot of "true" ghost stories in forums and on youtube and podcasts. I'm a total skeptic, but I like the folklore aspects.

Woo-hoo, you sound busy! I do love Riverdale. D won't watch any type of Star Trek, but I've heard good things about Discovery. I ate up all my comfort food last month with TVD, and TO. Boo.

Ghosts do tend to feel folklore-y, don't they? I hadn't looked at it that way before!

What kind of fish are you going to catch with this bait? ;)

Ha ha, no one, I just realized that that rambling paragraph sounded like a dating site profile after I wrote it.

I've been a Star Trek fan for exactly 40 years - it's the fandom I always go back to (except for Voyager and the movie reboot).

I really love Riverdale, too, though I'm a couple of episodes behind. Archie reminds me so much of Stefan, only more innocent and less homocidal.

Speaking of supernatural teen soaps, have you checked out Shadowhunters? It's the TV version of Cassie Clare's books. I know a lot of people don't like her stuff out of principle, but the show is actually pretty good, with humans who are part angel, werewolves, vampires, warlocks and fae. You might like it if you like TVD and Riverdale.

Did some culling in my 10 year-old's room yesterday. Three bags of trash and that's the legit trash - I didn't throw any of her things out no matter how tempting. But, my hard work (all day long) inspired the 7 year-old to clean her room and now I can see the floor in there again.

I'd do a happy dance but I'm still sore.

Now someone needs to come clean out my room.

edit: I know I can spell words.

I remember having to use a rake!! Kids. I cull a little every week and still can't seem to get rid of all of it. I don't know how that works. I have to stop buying stuff...ugh.

I will clean out your room if you clean out my attic. We all need someone to sit on our bed while we clean out our closets.

I am definitely a lot more ruthless when it's not my stuff. Also, I'm just overwhelmed with all the things. We have too much stuff, but how to get rid of it?
