* What a great flist-y turnout over at comment_fic! We are still going strong over there. Today with prompts for The Veil. I know the prompts seem so similar and it might be a bit of a stretch to explore such deeply human, deeply mystical subjects through fandom and short fic, but I've seen some great prompts and wonderful responses! Join us!

* How's NaNo Day 1 going for those of you writing?

* I need to circle back and close the discussion on "IT" over at pathos_horror. And I'll let you all know what book we choose next!

* Sculpting class is going great. Had a wonderful heart-to-heart with the instructor yesterday and he really understands what my current concerns are and where I would like to go with this return to clay. He's an amazing guy and a truly gifted artist. What I need to do, my homework for this weekend, is to create some sketches, some ideas for a "study" that I can spend the next two months on. And this time I'm going to use armature rather than the method he has taught me. I have a few ideas, just need to firm them up. Also, I met a wonderful artist yesterday who hasn't been to the studio in a long time for health reasons. She's an albino and slightly homeless but seems to be getting back on her feet and what a source of information and inspiration. She sculpts stylized animals...and is the first figurative sculptor I've met at the studio.

* I know everyone is WRITING, so back to it!

I'm glad to see that you're sculpting again. I was struck by the phrase "return to clay." I thought it would make a fun prompt for a story about someone who undergoes de-evolution back to a lump of clay, or perhaps a story about a clay-based person, or a Pygmalion/Galatea riff. When it comes to things like clay/sculpting/pottery, my hands might as well be tree stumps. I think it would be wonderful to produce things with your hands!

Hahahaha, aw G, you always make me smile! I sculpted throughout my thirties and then burnt myself out on it. It's been nice to return to it and find it a forgiving medium!

You doing NaNo?

My ignorance is showing. I don't really know what that is.

Galatea as a golem. This needs to happen.

If Gary reads this, he should put it in his pocket for later. It's a great idea!

Comment_fic is awesome, and your themes are awesome. I don't think it matters that they're similar. I really wanted to write something for the DamonElena, kids asking why they can't dress as vamps prompt but couldn't come up with anything.

I've written 1168 words today. Was trying to have a character have a quasi-lame power and chose melting small quantities of rubber. But then she got rubber gloves and endless rubber hair bands and is now a badass with fire-hands. How's your Nano-ing going?

Ooh, what genre are you thinking for the next book are we sticking with horror or going for something else?

Yay for sculpting heart-to-hearts, what stuff are you thinking of making?

Oh, J, you are always so wonderfully supportive. It means so very much! Everyone must be NaNo-ing today. Except me. Glad to hear you got so much written! That's fantastic! Fire hands!!!

I need to start writing. Probably this weekend.

I want to try to stay with "horror" but a humanity-based horror hence the name. Find the pathos in the genre. I really need to post my final (negative) thoughts about IT.

I want to do a series of busts. I really would like to do a satyr and a maenad!

Humanity based horror sounds good.

Ooh, love the idea of Satyr and Maenad

Good luck with NaNo. My life is a bit too unsettled this year for my participation, but I have enjoyed successful seasons in years past.

i'm glad the sculpting is going well! i love that you have homework and i think you should photograph your finished piece so you can share it and we can tell you how fabulous it is. :D well, assuming you're happy with it when you're done....

nano is going ok so far, by which i mean i wrote 1812 words between last night and today, which means i'm not behind yet. yay.

I SHOULD be writing, but haven't made it happen yet.

I saw that you'd been hosting comment_fic. How awesome! I used to spend some good time there, and drifted away when everything seemed to be based on comic book characters. I should check it out again. :)
