* It is GORGEOUS outside ([personal profile] murielle has snow!) and we've been doing so much yard work. D has burn piles everywhere, I've been weeding and pruning and debating landscaping options:  bark or rock, azaleas or maples. AND we have committed ourselves to trying to warm up the pool by installing a pool solar heater! This is HUGE for us because of the trees. We really didn't want to have to clear cut a third acre for a solar farm, but we also can't swim because the pool averages 66 degrees all summer long. So, we've compromised. We've decided to build a open beam building with a shed-style roof that will act as all kinds of things - solar panel holder, barbecue area, bar, and picnic site. It has to be big because of how many panels we need. It's also going to block the view of D's shop and truck collection which is a big bonus for me. It's going to match the house and the pool house because S, our contractor, is doing the work. The pad is being poured tomorrow!!! This is fast for us. It usually takes D years to agonize a decision like this. I guess that shows how motivated he is to be doing laps. LOL. We still need to drop trees, but not as many and more selectively.

* I'm taking a break from writing for a week or two. I need to focus on data processing for the cemetery. I'm also scheduled for a phone conference tomorrow with the magazine. I'm not sure I'm going to continue with them. I'll know more after tomorrow. My decision not theirs. I want to start getting my calendar into a shape that works better for me. I'm feeling scattered and pulled in too many different directions. Writing articles was good for me during last year - non-fic, interviews, op-ed pieces. But now I find it bothersome and distracting. I enjoy the copy-editing but I think the new editor can handle it.

* Still NUTS for the Instant Pot! C'mon, people! Buy this appliance and simply and delishify your lives! I use it 6 nights a week now. Let's talk recipes and technique!

* What's everyone doing? I sure miss the days of olde... This entry was originally posted at https://bleodswean.dreamwidth.org/338731.html. Please comment there using OpenID.

Do you find the LJ/DW post/comment thing confusing? I do. Big surprise! LOL!

Your plans sound fantastic! Photos?! I'm all for solar. My dream home will be solar powered. You know, the one I'll build when I win the lottery. ;-)

Taking a break after Idol is the law. Absolutely necessary. I like your idea of reshaping your calendar. We all need to re-evaluate our time usage and priorities every now and then.

I'm so happy you're writing again, and thinking about writing, and planning for your writing. Of course, I want to read it All!

I don't do it, so I don't know, M! I either comment here or comment there. I don't attempt the crossposting!

Definitely needing that break! But soon - let's start up a writers group!

I do the crossposting and I have people answering from both journals and I get confused as to who is answering form where. (Only DW crossposts to LJ, I haven't a clue how to do it the other way. But it's good in a way because I quite like DW's system.) Like I need more confusion in my life.

Yes, yes, yes to the writer's group. Let me know when you're ready. It's been a while since I've been writing, those muscles need flexing or I will lose them. Besides, writing with you is awesome and fun.

It sounds lovely - your pool. I'm totally envious, but having an outdoor pool in the Frozen Northlands just isn't reasonable. The outdoor pool at my local YMCA will open Memorial Day weekend and I'll be joining many others in the pool then, because having that 50 meter outdoor pool for the summer is total heaven.

It is lovely, just way too cold! All the money spent and the work it requires and we really can't swim comfortably. I hope this goes a ways towards getting that temp higher. My mother and sister both have pools and theirs are already at 85 down in the valley!!

I'm waiting for either my rice cooker or slow cooker to die before I allow myself get an instant pot.

Heh. Throw those out - it's all three! And I'll never slow cook again. The pressurized cooking makes everything so much tastier!

It's been nice here as well. I just turned on the solar heater for the pool and have been doing other pool chores, plus a nasty one. The cut out for our sewer line blew, so I had to replace it and de-toxify the immediate garden area.

K's mother gave us an Instant Pot and I've been eager to use it. I've been looking for beginner's recipes, but haven't found any yet. Plus, it intimidates me, as most cooking devices do. I'm looking for low calorie and low sodium recipes, and it's a hard combination.

I'm taking a break from writing too - until the next Idol. The mini-season was a long slog.

A really beautiful mid-Spring, G! I'm enjoying it!

Yuck to sewer lines.

That's the beauty of the Instant Pot - it's whatever you want it to be! You add the ingredients! We've had such good luck with stews, chili, cube steak, chicken of all kinds, ribs!!, potatoes and rice. Tell me what you want to try and I'll tell you if I have and the recipe I used! The chicken tikka massala was amazing!!!

Yeah, my brain needs a rest! Hope K had a productive weekend at the keyboard!

And we had more snow yesterday. We're all going to need therapy before this spring is over! ;-))
