* Well....I guess I'm going to be migrating back to LJ. I've been spending the past three quarters of a year here because of [community profile] therealljidol , but now it's NEARLY finished (there was a finale tie last night and now two writers are battling for that icon!!) and the full season will be hosted on LJ. This is not a major move, but it is somewhat significant as I haven't posted from the LJ platform for a long, long time now. Dreamwidth worked in the way it needed to, but honestly, two similar platforms, the cross-posting, the filters, and the flist just don't make maintaining two presences worth it.

I do realize that this attitude of mine is frustrating for some folks. I know that there is a strong dislike of LJ, I know that some really really want DW to be the LJ of Olde. But for me, I started out on LJ sixteen years ago, I like LJ, and DW just is too....bland? for me. I'm not sure. I mean I know that LJ was all kinds of quiet by the time I packed up and settled down here and I think it's up to all of us to find a way to invigorate one or both platforms. The invigoration ain't happening on its own. I'm ready for a friending frenzy and I know there are a handful of us who want to sit around in a virtual circle talking shop.

* Isn't it amazing when circumstances allow you to do something nice for someone??? :)

* In the meantime, the publisher of the mag convinced me to tough it out for another few months. She admitted that things are fraying and that I'm dealing with the worst of that. I don't really have a lot of faith that the situation will begin to knit back together, but I guess I'll give her until July to see....

I bought a sit to stand desk and I'm over the moon ecstatic with it!!! I used to have a standing desk but traded it in for a sitting behemoth and quickly regretted it. So happy to be up on my feet again typing away like a crazed monkey girl.

Trying to let my goat-footed Muse rest a bit and that means feeding him all manner of Literature. What is everyone reading? What is your summer "go to" book? Mine has always been "Possession" but I'm not feeling that one yet. I want a long British novel type of read.

Saw a cat with Brian Jones chops yesterday and now I can't stop thinking of Brian, that godstar -

I'm investigating a standing desk that's really just a platform you put over your sitting desk. I spend entirely too much time sitting! :-)

THat's what this is - a destop riser. I'm so thrilled with this one, P. I really recommend you get one. I'm standing again and it feels AMAZING!!!

This one is sturdy and really well made. I'm impressed with it. Although the directions are serious Engrish.

I get it. I don't feel quite at home on DW either. The only reason why I've been cross posting from there is because I don't remember my LJ password, lol. If I do post to LJ exclusively like right now it's because I'm on my phone.

All the managers at what was current employer had standing desks. They were really podiums with a box attached under the platform where you'd put your notes. They were much wider than a standard podium IIRC and also had a cubby where you could store the dept telzon as well as pens, etc. (telzon is the handheld used to submit orders).

I really prefer standing and this riser is what I've been needing for a long time now!

Yeah, kiz, I'm coming back exclusively to LJ. I'm sorry if my DW friends can't do the same for various reasons, but I prefer LJ for several reasons. It does feel more like a ghost town over there and not in the traditional sense where folks used to inhabit a place but more in the nightmarish sense that there are only ghosts there and only ever have been.

Today, I'm recovering from shopping yesterday evening. That means that not only my body is burnt out, but my mind is toast as well--and without the poached egg, if you know what I mean. So, when I read "I guess I'm going to be migrating back to LJ." I read, "I guess I'm going to be migrating back to LA." I spent a few minutes thinking about how I'd never realized you had lived in LA, and how different it would be for you to be living away from the mountains that you love, but that maybe you'd found your perfect seaside cottage. Then I read on and realized I got it wrong.

While I like the simplicity of DW, I have missed LJ, too. I'm not sure how one cross posts the other way. DW makes that really easy--I like that. I may make some changes to my LJ. I've kind of outgrown a lot of it. Time to sit down with it and work it all out, and I think we'll get that before the next full season of Idol begins.

In a way, even though I know it's not doing much for you right now, I'm glad you're staying on a bit longer with the mag. You're getting great experience and exposure in a new venue and that's great. (Of course, I want to see your name splashed all over the literary world.)

I love the idea of a rising desk. And that one looks so cool with its keyboard shelf, but I just couldn't stand that long. So, I sit, and my middle-aged-spread continues to spread. ;-)

Can't read right now. Brain won't let me. But, I've decided to watch Six Feet Under again, while I have HBO on demand. I started last night--dumb because I was so exhausted I kept falling asleep. They all look so YOUNG!

At this point I'm using DW as my backup for LJ since the old LJ backup app doesn't work anymore. I'm not comfortable without at least one backup, and I've been here since 2001. If I lost everything I'd be devastated. It's an archive of my life at this point, and I've worked in archives enough to know the value of the Everyman Diary. Heck, I subscribe to the RSS of Samuel Pepys' diary and it's fascinating!

I wrecked my feet standing for seven years at the hotel. I heart my sit-down desk job now. Especially this time of year when the ol' joints start aching.

Why did you let me walk away from a book rec request without giving one? Foucault's Pendulum. I got my very own copy and I'm rereading it now. It's just as brilliant the second time as it was the first.

How does that work? You're crossposting from DW? I'm not clear on all the ways the two platforms interface.

I wrecked my back so standing is so much easier for me. I get it, I do!

Checking it out now. I've never read any Eco.

I crosspost from LJ to DW. There's a link under the organize dropdown menu to import that I use. It doesn't always get all the comments and if you edit the post after you import it, the edits won't go through but it's better than nothing.

I found it's easier to crosspost from DW to here than the other way around. There's a clicky box at the bottom of the post page where you can automatically send your entry to here. I never found one on the LJ post page, but that could be because I'm still using the old version.

There isn't one on LJ. You have to import LJ from the DW site. Why can't websites all get along? :(

I never managed to get really into DW - I have an account there, but don't post from there. When I remember, I will go over there and bring in my LJ stuff - but I don't back up often enough

Yes, it took me a year to get used to it but it never felt like home!

I get it. Dreamwidth never really worked for me either. I think the thing is both LJ and DW are deadzones, so we might as well veer to the one that's familiar, that's a cosy home, even if that part of it is only in our memories, there isn't really anything at Dreamwidth to pull me there.

Eep. I hope things get better with the magazine. Though sometimes you have to just let things go.

I've got 'An absolutely remarkable thing' by Hank Green waiting to be read, if the whole thing is as good as the first chapter that will be a treat.

I need to post and catch up . . . I just wish that phone posting and photos were easier to manage for both DW and LJ!
